Angelo, what does inspire you most?
“Inspiration can come from so many different places, but the essence of the natural world is surely what inspires me most. Mother Nature surrounds us and permeates every aspect of our life with boundless beauty that will never stop to fill with wonder the eyes of those who want to see it. I am indeed very curious and I think that inspiration is basically all about curiosity and passion for what you do: if you don’t have that hunger for knowledge, then you are just missing so many chances of discovering and inventing something new, both in hairstyling and in life.”

Where does creativity meet hairstyling?
“I think that creativity is a recipe made of many different ingredients: inspiration sources, individual sensitivity and, last but not least, the love and dedication to your profession, hairstyling in my case.
One of my objectives in hairstyling is to step outside the box, to create something that seems impossible and unexpected, that pleases my eyes, mind and soul, but nevertheless my philosophy is always to make a woman look beautiful and modern. Originality often means eclecticism, a mix of elements coming from different forms of art, that’s why to work with hair I also search for inspiration from other fields that are not necessarily the hairdressing one, such as fashion industry, photography, architecture, design and contemporary art. I like to collect, combine and experiment, translating all the ideas and re-elaborating all influences in various ways: besides my salon work, my creative collection productions and magazine shooting works, I design hair for art curators for fashion exhibitions.
I love hairdressing and if you love something in life you automatically become loyal and truthful to it. Hairdressing is my passion, through good and bad times and I always stick with it. Every day I look forward to my job. I definitely believe creative hairdressing is an art form in itself, a vital visual force to complement other arts.”
If we ask you to tell us the name of a hairstylist who represented a turning point for your career…
“The first name that comes into my mind is for sure that of Trevor Sorbie, a real hairdressing icon, who has inspired the whole sector at a worldwide level, becoming a mentor for many of today’s top hairdressers, thanks to his ability of always combining perfectly the highest quality standards with the most excellent hairdressing. Working with him for 15 years was a very meaningful and enriching life experience, he became like a father to me and I feel very grateful for what he gave me from both a professional and a human point of view.”
What is new, in your opinion, in the latest hairstyling trends?
“While rushing through the professional day by day routine, a hairdresser, like all the other artisans, sometimes runs the risk of forgetting to focus on some basic aspects of his craft, missing some great chances of adding value to his work.
I think that this is the moment to rediscover the creative potential of blow-drying that, in my opinion, is precious like an accessory to be worn, the final expert touch that enhances the beauty of a style. I’m working with Davines on something new, an homage to this special craft, to give it back its artistic dignity. I perceive the blow-drying as an art, and I want to invite all the hairdressers to realize their own masterpiece with hair. You’ll discover soon what I am talking about, I hope that you’ll enjoy it and that you’ll have fun!”

The Nutrients Your Hair Needs

Healthy hair relies on certain essential nutrients, including protein, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc, calcium, biotin and vitamins A, C, E and D. Eating a healthy balanced diet should provide you with all these nutrients, especially if you include these top ten foods for healthy hair.
Salmon and tuna are rich in protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin D, but even though they’re rich in omega-3 fats they’re not high in total fats or calories. Add salmon or tuna to a fresh green salad or enjoy them as sushi. Canned tuna and salmon can be kept on hand and used in a number of recipes. Herring, sardines and trout are also rich in omega-3s.
Spinach, Swiss chard and kale are excellent sources of vitamin A, iron, calcium and vitamin C. They’re also low in calories so they’ll also help you keep a trim waistline. Use raw green as a base for your salads or sauté them with a little olive oil and garlic and serve as a healthy side.
Almonds, pecans and walnuts are rich in plant proteins, biotin, minerals and vitamin E. Walnuts are also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Eat raw walnuts as a snack or top your salads with toasted pecans. Sprinkle some almonds on green beans or other cooked veggies.
Sweet potatoes and yams are packed with vitamin A, plus they contain vitamin C, iron and calcium. Serve whipped sweet potatoes as a tasty side dish or bake sweet potatoes and top them with a little molasses, which adds even more calcium.
Eggs are an excellent source of protein and biotin, and they contain vitamins A and E iron and calcium. Eggs produced by hens fed special diets, called ‘omega eggs’ are also good sources of omega-3 fatty acids.
Dry beans, lentils and soy are rich in protein, zinc, iron and biotin. Baked beans can be used as a topping for baked white or sweet potatoes. Or serve lentil soup with a fresh green salad.
Oysters are extremely high in zinc plus they’re a rich source of protein. Enjoy raw oysters on the half shell, prepared as Oysters Rockefeller, or make oyster stew for dinner.
Dairy products are high in protein, vitamin D and calcium. Go with low or non-fat milk and cheese to cut back on some of the calories. Serve Greek yogurt with honey, berries and nuts for a delicious breakfast or healthy dessert. Alternatively, milk made from almonds, soy or rice is also a good choice.
Red bell peppers are high in vitamins A and C, plus they’re super low in calories. Top a salad with raw red pepper slices. Roast them with an assortment of veggies or add them to a stir-fry.
Beef is an excellent source of protein and zinc. It can be high in fats and calories, so choose a leaner cut like a filet mignon. Grass-fed beef has a better fatty acid profile. Add thin slices of steak to a salad or use lean cuts of beef in a stir-fry.Leave a reply

While a fresh blowout and a hint of blush can help you look your best, some of the most potent beauty weapons are found in the supermarket. Your food picks have an enormous effect on your appearance, says nutritionist Keri Glassman, R.D., author of The O2 Diet: The Cutting Edge Antioxidant-Based Program That Will Make You Healthy, Thin, and Beautiful. And you’ll see results fast. “In just 28 days—the lifecycle of your skin—a nutritious diet can impart a glow that no cream can accomplish alone,” says Ellen Marmur, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City and author of Simple Skin Beauty. Boost your good looks by adding more of these items to your cart.
Blueberries and Pomegranates
Both of these fruits are bursting with antioxidants called anthocyanins, which help protect you from fine lines and dryness by neutralizing the free radicals that weather your skin. Plus, their high vitamin C content enhances the production of collagen, which keeps your skin nice and plump, says Glassman. (And weighing in at less than 100 calories a cup, they have the opposite effect on your waistline.)
Teenage breakouts used to be blamed, at least in part, on wolfing down too many candy bars. But according to Marmur, chocolate has never been proven to cause blemishes. In fact, the sweet stuff contains high levels of flavonoids, potent antioxidants that can help protect your skin from sun damage and amp up blood flow to your tissues, keeping skin nourished and glowing, says Glassman. Look for chocolate that’s at least 70 percent cacao (it has more antioxidants), and use restraint. If you’ve been known to take down a giant chocolate bar in one sitting, buy individually wrapped nuggets instead and stick to one or two (about one ounce) a day.
Spinach is another powerhouse of vital nutrients and antioxidants that help fight inflammation and free-radical damage—precursors to fine lines and wrinkles. It’s also loaded with a kind of antioxidant called lutein, which helps eyes stay healthy and bright. Most important, spinach is an all-star source of vitamin A (beta-carotene), which helps speed up skin cell turnover and keeps skin supple, says Marmur. (And from this beta-carotene, your body generates its very own retinol, which makes skin firm and resilient.) All this and it’s nearly calorie-free: One cup of raw spinach has just seven calories and 55 percent of your RDA of vitamin A (700 IU). For variety, swap spinach for kale, collard greens, and Swiss chard—all of which have similar look-pretty powers.
You don’t have to gnaw more nuts than a squirrel to enjoy their many perks—smoother skin, healthier hair, brighter eyes, and stronger bones. Eating just one ounce of walnuts (about 14 halves) by themselves or in your salad, pasta, or dessert will supply you with your daily dose of the nutrients (namely omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E) that are responsible for these radiant results. Other top nuts include hazelnuts, pistachios, and almonds.
Eating one cup of plain low-fat yogurt knocks off nearly half of your RDA of calcium with about 450 milligrams of the nutrient—and calcium is key for strong nails and teeth. Plus, eight ounces is packed with two grams of zinc (25 percent of the RDA), which helps calm skin inflammation, treat rosacea, and prompt regeneration of cells, notes Marmur.
A new adage should be, “A tomato a day keeps the dermatologist away.” Whether this red fruit is sliced, diced, stewed, or simmered, it helps protect skin against damage from the sun and other environmental factors thanks to its key ingredient, the antioxidant lycopene. Lycopene is actually highest in cooked tomatoes—yet another reason to opt for a red sauce over a cream-based one.
Healthy fats aid the body’s absorption of lycopene and other nutrients, so eat one serving of tomatoes a day with a drizzle of olive oil, a splash of vinaigrette, or a slice of avocado, says Glassman.
Inside that plain brown wrapper is a green gift of vitamin C, which can help stimulate collagen synthesis, repair damage to skin-cell DNA, and keep blood vessels and hair follicles strong, says Marmur. A single kiwi has nearly all the vitamin C you need in a day but only 42 calories. Add some slices to your breakfast, toss pieces into a smoothie, or dice it and serve atop fro-yo.
If you’re seeking smoother skin, jump for soy! Research shows that the isoflavones in soy foods—including tofu, soy milk, and edamame—can ease inflammation and stave off collagen breakdown, leaving skin with a more even tone and fewer wrinkles. There’s no RDA for soy, notes Glassman, but a serving per day is both safe and helpful. Add soy milk to your morning cup of coffee and toss half a cup of boiled edamame into a salad or pasta dish.
Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, and Butternut Squash
These orange wonder veggies contain a bonanza of beauty-boosting beta-carotene, which your body converts into skin-smoothing retinol, thereby helping to protect your skin from past and present sun damage, says Glassman.
Warm up to this soothing brew’s antioxidants, called catechins, which can help prevent certain skin cancers and stave off sunburns, says Marmur. The variety of tea with the highest concentration of catechins is called matcha.
For all the pretty perks, drink two cups a day. If you aren’t into tea, try sprinkling green matcha powder (available at health-food stores) into a yogurt parfait or homemade smoothie. And if you’re trying to cut down on caffeine, worry not. With just 26 milligrams of caffeine per six-ounce cup, green tea has about half as much as a cup of black tea.

Summer time means being active and having fun, swimming and being outside in the sun. It’s great being active and busy for the summer, and some women forget to take care of their hair, so when September comes, it’s good to do some maintenance on your locks, and My Hair Trip will tell you what you need to get your hair back to healthy.
1. Get a trim: Your hairs natural oils keep it protected and supple, sun and chlorine sap those oils from your hair. This can cause split ends and frizziness. Getting a cut of a half inch or so can make your hair look better, instantly.
2. Rehydrate daily: instead of your regular conditioner try using one of our conditioners from Davines or Phia designed for dry and/or damaged hair. If your hair is really dry or damaged, leave your conditioner in your hair rather than rinsing. Also, picking up one of our hair serums and/or mists might be a good idea.
3. Make sure you choose the right shampoo. Shampoos that are made for washing out chlorine are awesome for days when you are actually swimming. But if you already have chlorine damage, those shampoos don’t do much good. Instead, use a hydrating type like Davines’s Oi shampoo or any of our Phia products which will literally work magic enriching and moisturizing your hair, while it cleans it.
4. Wash your hair only when it is necessary. There’s literally nothing better for your hair than its own natural oils, so shampooing every day washes those oils out of your hair and doesn’t give them time to work their way down the hair shaft. You probably want to try to go at least one day between shampoos — two to three if your hair can handle it.
5. Brush, brush, brush! A great way to let your hair’s natural oils repair your damaged hairs is through regular brushing. “It distributes the natural oils and encourages your hair to shine. We recommend to our clients to brush their hair every evening.
6. Keep an eye on your hair and look for signs of serious dehydration. If you are running into the common problem with your hair not holding any style that you try to do to it, that means it is seriously dehydrated from summer. To fix this problem, avoid styling products that will dry your hair, such as gels that contain alcohol, and any maximum-hold hairsprays.
7. The foods you eat can help to nourish your hair. Good fats, such as omega-3s, and B vitamins actually help hair grow strong, shiny, and full of body. Try adding salmon, tuna, nuts, and seeds to your diet. You don’t have to go crazy or overload on these foods, your body only absorbs a certain amount daily anyway.
8. Use cool air setting to dry your hair. The heat from your blowdryer will damage hair the same way that the sun does. While you’re nursing your hair back to health, switch to the cool setting on your blow dryer.
9. Don’t use hot tools for a little while. Heated metal styling tools like flat irons and curling irons can cause more damage to your locks.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – NCIS actress Pauley Perrette is warning fans about the dangers of hair dye after suffering a severe allergic reaction to her trademark ink-black color.
CBSLA’s Kristine Lazar spoke with Perrette, whose character, Abby Sciuto, is known for her raven locks.
A natural blonde, the actress has been dying her hair for 20 years.
But her beauty routine landed her in the hospital when she broke out in a rash and began to experience severe swelling.
“The other half of my face had become twice the size of my head,” she said.
Perrette posted a photo of her swollen face on social media, warning her half-million Twitter followers about the dangers of hair-dye allergies.

“The most important thing to me is that anyone out there that dyes their hair, particularly black, you need to be aware of the symptoms,” she said.
There are warning signs, according to Jacob Offenberger, an allergist at Northridge Medical Center.
“If you have hair dye, and the next day or the day after you start to have itchiness and you start to see redness or [an] eczema-type of lesion, it is telling that you that you are having an allergic reaction to that dying,” Offenberger said, warning, “If you would do nothing, the next time you do the hair dye, it’s going to get worse.”
That is exactly what happened to Perrette.
Six months ago, the actress broke out into a rash all over her neck and scalp but ignored the symptoms, she said.
Perrette says she’s now looking into natural hair dye and also into wearing a wig.

When it comes to healthy hair, it’s not just what you put on your tresses that counts — it’s what you put in your body, too.
Better-looking hair can start at your next meal.
“Just like every other part of your body, the cells and processes that support strong, vibrant hair depend on a balanced diet,” says New York nutritionist Lisa Drayer, MA, RD, author of The Beauty Diet.
It can take longer to notice changes (both good or bad!) in your hair than in your skin. For example, “just one week with a poor diet can yield acne flare-ups or dry, sallow skin within days,” says New York City dermatologist Cybele Fishman, MD, “but with hair, it can take a few months for a nutritional deficiency or the effects of a crash diet to show up.”
The nutrients you eat today help fortify the hair follicle — from which each strand is born — and the scalp that surrounds it. “Healthier follicles? Healthier hair. Healthier scalp? Healthier hair!” Drayer says.
Of course, there’s more to your hair than what you eat. Smoking, hormonal imbalances, and not enough sleep can also affect how your hair looks and feels. No magic nutrient can make up for those concerns.
Still, you have a lot more leverage than you might think. If you eat a balanced, varied, protein-rich diet that focuses on the following 10 foods, you’ll be giving your hair the TLC it needs and deserves.
Besides being rich in protein and vitamin D (both are key to strong hair) the omega-3 fatty acids found in this tasty cold-water fish are the true superstar. Your body can’t make those fatty acids, which your body needs to grow hair. About 3% of the hair shaft is make up of these fatty acids, Drayer says. Omega-3s are also found in cell membranes in the skin of your scalp, and in the natural oils that keep your scalp and hair hydrated.
Other options: If salmon doesn’t thrill you, you can also get essential fatty acids from fish like herring, sardines, trout, and mackerel, as well as avocado, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts (see below for more wonderful things about walnuts.)
These are the only type of nut that have a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids. They’re also rich in biotin and vitamin E, which helps protect your cells from DNA damage. Since your hair rarely gets much shielding from the sun, this is especially great, Drayer says. Too little biotin can lead to hair loss. Walnuts also have copper, a mineral that helps keep your natural hair color rich and lustrous, Fishman says.
Other options: Try using walnut oil in your salad dressing or stir-fry instead of canola or safflower, Fishman says.
Oysters are rich in zinc, a lack of which can lead to hair loss (even in your eyelashes), as well as a dry, flaky scalp. Three ounces has a whopping 493% of your daily value. You can get some zinc through fortified cereals and whole grain breads, but oysters can boast a good level of protein too. “Remember, hair is about 97% protein,” Drayer says. Without enough protein, your body can’t replace the hairs that you naturally shed every day and what you do make can be dry, brittle, or weak.
Other options: Get your fill of zinc with nuts, beef, and eggs.
4. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are a great source of the antioxidant beta carotene, which your body turns into vitamin A. “Basically, every cell of the body cannot function without enough A,” Fishman says. It also helps protect and produce the oils that sustain your scalp, and being low on vitamin A can even leave you with itchy, irksome dandruff.
Other options: Carrots, cantaloupe, mangoes, pumpkin, and apricots are all good sources of beta carotene.
A great source of protein, eggs are loaded with four key minerals: zinc, selenium, sulfur, and iron. Iron is especially important, because it helps cells carry oxygen to the hair follicles, and too little iron (anemia) is a major cause of hair loss, particularly in women, Drayer says.
Other options: You can also boost your iron stores with animal sources, including chicken, fish, pork, and beef.
The iron, beta carotene, folate, and vitamin C in spinach help keep hair follicles healthy and scalp oils circulating.
Other options: Try similarly nutrient-rich dark, leafy vegetables such as broccoli, kale, and Swiss chard.
Tiny but mighty, these legumes are teeming with protein, iron, zinc, and biotin, says Fishman, making it a great staple for vegetarian, vegans, and meat eaters.
Other options: Toss other beans such as soybeans (the young ones are called edamame) and kidney beans into your soup or salad.
8. Greek yogurt
Cruise the dairy aisle for low-fat options such as Greek yogurt, which is high in hair-friendly protein, vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid — an ingredient you’ll often see on hair care product labels), and vitamin D. Emerging research links vitamin D and hair follicle health, but exactly how that works isn’t clear, Fishman says.
Other options: Cottage cheese, low-fat cheese, and skim milk also fit the bill.
Exotic super fruits may come and go but when it comes to vitamin C, “It’s hard to top this nutrient superhero,” Drayer says. C is critical for circulation to the scalp and supports the tiny blood vessels that feed the follicles. Too little C in your diet can lead to hair breakage.
This everyday entree is extraordinary when it comes to protein, as well as hair-healthy zinc, iron, and B vitamins to keep strands strong and plentiful. Because hair is nearly all protein, “foods rich in protein are literally giving you the building blocks for hair,” Drayer says.
