How To Clean Hair Brushes & Combs
One thing you might not think about cleaning on the regular is your hairbrush or comb. Of course, we remove hair build up every so often but do you take the time to really clean them? The downside is if we don’t clean them on a somewhat regular basis dirt, oil and hair products can build up and leave your hair feeling not so clean. So how do we solve this problem? Well, there is an easy way to clean our your brushes and combs and it only takes a few minutes. Check out the instructions below on how to clean hair brushes and combs:
Start by removing all hair that has built up in between the bristles of your brush or comb. If some hair is woven tightly, use a toothpick to loosen.
Next, soak your tools in a sink of warm water with a few drops of shampoo. This will help remove oils and any product lingering in the bristles. Gentle scrub to get them extra clean.
If you happen to have a wooden, padded, or rubber brush skip the soaking step. Simply run these type of brushes under water with no soap to remove oils and dirt.
That’s all it takes to remove the build up on your brushes and it can be done on a weekly basis to make sure your brush is as clean as possible.

– 1 cup brown sugar
– 3 brown bananas
Add brown sugar and brown banana chunks (they break down much easier than yellow bananas) to a bowl and mush with a spatula. To get the consistency just right, use your fingers to crush the banana bits. Bonus! You can totally lick your fingers clean! No joke — we kept saying what a dope pancake topping this scrub would make. Organic ingredients FTW!
GRAPEFRUIT-AVOCADO OIL SUGAR SCRUB
Grapefruit brings its free-radical fighting powers to this scrub that helps equalize your skin tone and bust everything from blemishes to wrinkles. Best news: Mild avocado oil won’t block your pores.
– 1 cup sugar
– 1/2 grapefruit, squeezed
– 3 tablespoons avocado oil
Juice half a grapefruit into a bowl of sugar and pour in your avocado oil (AVOO if you think like Rachael Ray), then stir to combine. Remember: The more you stir, the more the sugar will dissolve, so use more of a folding motion if you want to keep the granules in tact!
LAVENDER-GRAPESEED OIL SEA SALT SCRUB
Dried lavender exfoliates as it soothes the senses in this acne-fighting scrub. Sub sea salt for sugar to scrub away dead skin and other impurities. Lavender and sea salt are also perfect PICs for those battling eczema.
– 1 cup sea salt
– 2-3 sprigs dried lavender
– 2-6 drops lavender essential oil
– 1 cup grape seed oil
Remove the lavender buds from the sprigs just like you would with herbs like thyme and rosemary, then boost the calming aroma by adding drops of lavender essential oil to your sea salt scrub. Pour in the grapeseed oil and gently mix to combine.
COFFEE-COCONUT OIL SUGAR SCRUB
Coffee is the wonder ingredient in this antioxidant packed-scrub: it not only reinvigorates your senses, but it also lightens and brightens the skin AND temporarily minimizes cellulite. Can we get an Amen!? We paired it with creamy coconut oil — one of the most moisturizing natural ingredients around.
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 1/2 cup ground coffee
– 1 cup coconut oil
Coffee and sugar join forces outside the mug to make this scrub that’s bound together by coconut oil. Don’t even reach for the spatula with this mixture: the warmth from your hands will melt the coconut oil like a dream. Plus, it’s an excuse to get down and dirty 😉
PUMPKIN-HONEY BAKING SODA SCRUB
This super gentle scrub has hella restorative powers from vitamin-packed pumpkin, which can help reverse skin damage. Soothing honey gives your skin a natural glow and helps to unclog pores.
– 1 can pumpkin
– 1 cup baking soda
– 1/4 cup honey
So baking soda kinda came out of left field, right? It’s an extremely gentle exfoliant, so this scrub is great for those with super sensitive skin. Mix it together with pumpkin pulp and honey and you’re done. (PS: As tempting as this pumpkin scrub may look, don’t try to taste it—baking soda is NOT a palette pleaser!).
Unless you and your gal pals are planning to use these scrubs straight from the mixing bowl at a stay-at-home spa day (um, that sounds nice!), you’ll want to transfer your scrubs into containers so that they’ll keep longer (about a week in the fridge). We used glass jars so we could see exactly what scrub is inside—A+ for easy access.

How to Select and Store?
Selection: Guavas are available in different varieties such as the Chinese Guava, Strawberry, Lemon, Apple and Mountain Guava. In tropical regions, they are available all the year round. Guavas with red flesh such as Thai maroon flesh are more nutritious than Green Apple guavas. On ripening, the skin of the guavas generally turns from green to yellow, their flesh softens and they develop a fragrant fruity aroma. While purchasing guavas, make sure that you choose fresh fruits with their skins intact without any cuts, bruises or patches. Your choice of guava also depends upon the variety that you are buying. If you are buying pink guavas, choose the ones that are firm and devoid of soft spots. Their skin should be green with a yellow tinge. While buying white Thai guavas, make sure that they are free from blemishes or soft spots and their skin should be bright green in colour, like a Granny Smith apple. Overly soft guavas or the ones with soft spots or discolouration should be avoided.
When the guavas are picked from the tree, they are mature but not ripe. In other words, though the fruit has reached its optimum size and shape, the starches present in it have not been converted into sugar. These starches will get converted into sugar after a few days which will cause the fruit to soften and emit a wonderful guava fragrance. Ripe guavas generally have a characteristic colour and aroma.
Storage: Guavas can be stored at room temperature for a few days. Mature but green guavas can last for 2 to 5 weeks when kept at a regulated temperature between 46F and 55F and relative humidity of 85% to 95%. To hasten ripening, the guava can be kept wrapped in a paper with a banana or apple. Fully ripe guavas can be refrigerated for a few days. Pink and white guavas yield to gentle pressure if they are ripe. Ripe guavas can be kept in plastic bag or container and refrigerated for a few days. It is advisable to use them within a day or two. Unripe guavas can be stored in a plastic container or bag and can last for about two weeks. Freezing the guavas can make them last longer, even up to a year. To freeze a guava, cut it and place it in a freezer container. Cover it with light simple syrup and provide a little extra space in the container for expansion.
Tips for Usage (Cooking/ Eating)
As stated earlier, guava is a nutritious fruit with edible seeds and skin. Several varieties are available with each variety having a unique flavour and aroma. Before proceeding to eat guavas, it is necessary to wash them in cold running water to remove any dust and insecticide residues. The floral ends and remnants i.e. sepals should be removed and the tips ends should be cut with a sharp knife. Guavas can then be cubed or sliced like an apple. Guavas should be eaten with their skin on as the edible rind contains abundant amounts of vitamin C. Even the seeds can be eaten; and are very tasty and crunchy. Besides being eaten raw, guavas are often cooked to eliminate their strong odour as some people do not like it. Given below are some tips and recipes to enjoy this exotic fruit.
1. Guava juice and nectar are refreshing drinks and are often used as an ingredient in cold or frozen drinks or in mixed liquor beverages.
2. Due to its unique flavour, guavas are often used to make jelly. They have a high content of pectin, a chemical substance that helps jelly to set. The juice from half ripe guavas can be combined with hibiscus flowers or low pectin fruits to make jelly. Guavas are also used in butters, jams, marmalades and preserves.
3. Fresh guavas can be simply sliced and topped with a little sugar and cream. Guava cubes can be added to other tropical fruits in a salad. Guavas can also be used with cheeses or in apple dishes or as sauces for meat and poultry. Another way to eat a guava is to simply cut it in half and sprinkle with a little lemon juice; and eat flesh and seeds with a spoon, discarding the skin.
4. Freshly extracted juice of pinkish or reddish fleshed guava is not only sweet and yummy but also rich in vitamins. In fact, it can give a tough competition to any refreshment. You can easily prepare it at home. Wash and peel a guava. Add some sugar, ½ inch ginger (optional) and cold water; and blend it in a blender or juicer. Filter out the hard seeds and add some ice cubes while serving. This juice is quite tasty and refreshing especially in hot weather.
5. You can prepare a cool and refreshing drink by combining guava pulp and lemonade with a dash of lemon juice and sugar syrup. For this purpose, take about 8 large guavas, peel and cut them into big pieces and blend them in a blender with very little water. After removing and straining, add 4 teaspoons lemon juice, sugar syrup and a few drops of light pink colour. Mix well and keep it in a bottle. While serving, add 1 teaspoon of this mixture and 3 ice cubes to ½ a bottle of lemonade.
6. You can prepare a delicious salad by combining roasted guava with feta cheese. For this purpose, cut the guavas into thin round slices and marinate them with some chopped parsley, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, black pepper powder and salt. Roast the slices till they turn golden brown and caramelize the pine nuts with honey. Mix the roasted slices of guava with caramelized pine nuts, lettuce leaves and cubes of feta cheese. Pour this dressing on the salad and garnish with chopped parsley and feta cheese. It can be served cold.
7. Guava can be combined with apple to prepare a delicious curry. For this purpose, take two apples and two guavas; and cut them into big pieces. Melt two tablespoons ghee in a pot and put 3 cloves and 3 cinnamon pieces. Roast 10 to 12 raisins and 4 to 5 cashew nuts for two minutes and then add the guavas and apples. Cook for some time and add 2 tablespoons red chilli powder, 1 ½ tablespoons turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon coriander seeds powder and cumin seeds powder; and some salt and sugar. Remove and stir the mixture.
8. The sweet taste and strong fragrance of Florida pink guava make it suitable for dessert type dishes. Guava kheer is one such dessert that is quiet simple to prepare. All you need to do is pressure cook the guava and remove the seeds. Sieve it through a strainer. Adding sugar and milk to the pulp, bring it to a boil. When the sugar gets dissolved, add cardamom powder and garnish with roasted dry fruits.

However the diversity of applications for lemons far exceeds general knowledge and once you read the following list, you’ll likely want to stock at least a few lemons in your kitchen 24-7
1. Freshen the Fridge
Remove refrigerator odors with ease. Dab lemon juice on a cotton ball or sponge and leave it in the fridge for several hours. Make sure to toss out any malodorous items that might be causing the bad smell.
2. High Blood Pressure
Lemon contains potassium which controls high blood pressure and reduces the effect of nausea and dizziness.
3. Prevent Cauliflower From Turning Brown
Cauliflower tend to turn brown with even the slightest cooking. You can make sure the white vegetables stay white by squeezing a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice on them before heating.
4. Mental Health

Freshen and moisturize the air in your home on dry winter days. Make your own room scent that also doubles as a humidifier. No wood-burning stove? Use your stovetop instead and just simmer the water periodically.

My Hair Trip Salon Denver has now been open for just about 4 months. From the day we had the idea, to the day we found our space, to today … it’s been a trip. Building and running a salon has taught us a lot about life, about what it takes to succeed, and about each other.
Today we have the salon looking almost just the way we want it. We are displaying 12 local artists in our gallery, carrying 15 different local designers goods in the boutique, have 5 stylists and a salon manager that are kicking major butt everyday, and we are really having a blast.
All of us at My Hair Trip Salon are on the same page. It truly is joy to come into the salon everyday. We are all focused on making sure our clients and any visitors to the salon feel comfortable and are treated like the kings and queens that they are. We love making people smile, and we have been seeing a ton of smiles lately.
We are Denver’s only eco-friendly hair salon, barbershop, art gallery, and jewelry and apparel boutique. We really love our unique shop we have down here in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe (the creative epicenter of the city), and the people of Denver are seeming to really love it as well.

My Hair Trip Salon Denver is looking for one great stylist / colorist to join our team. My Hair Trip is Colorado’s only green salon, barbershop, art gallery, and jewelry and apparel boutique. Our team has a great chemistry right now and the vibe in our shop is really great. It feels good looking forward to coming into work. We are looking for another great stylist that is focused on their career as an artist, and is positive and upbeat about being the best they can be at whatever it is they do.
We give our stylists what they need to succeed. Our staff enjoys massive exposure we receive from 1st Friday Art Walks and other Art District events. Being located at 8th and Santa Fe, in the heart of the Art District is really great for us. There is foot traffic down here everyday, and there are lots of events in the district that bring people to our neighborhood, and in through our door year-round. We are a fully functioning art gallery as well as a premier salon, so we have a great pull for art district events and the walls of our shop are always full of great local art from all over the state. Our clients love it and so do we. Our stylists also receive commission on anything they sell in our boutique or gallery in addition to their product and service commissions. Our stylists start at 40% commission on services and can earn all the way up to 75%. Our product commission is 17.5% which is much hire than the average salons in Denver offering 10%.
We have product and technique knowledge classes going on all the time. Our stylists can do as much or as little as they want to, as far as continuous education. Whenever one of our stylists go to a class, or workshop, or seminar and learn something new, they come back and show the rest of us what they learned, so we are all always on the cutting edge of styles, trends, and techniques. We also offer our stylists sales incentives such as tickets to shows, and education classes and events.
We are an organic, eco friendly shop so we are looking for a stylist that is interested in using the chemical free products and services that we offer. We also really want to bring on someone who, either is passionate about organic, green living in their own life, or at least is interested and willing to learn more about what healthy green living is. Our stylists and their clients are loving the top of the line health and beauty products and services we provide.
We use Organic Color Systems for our color line and we really, really love it! We only do business with other businesses that, not only have chemical free products and services, but that are also ethical and green throughout all aspects of their business.
